JOIN OUR GREAT TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS!
Do you have a friendly telephone manner and can tick any one of the following?
* You want to help people
* You want to keep your brain active and learn new skills
* You love meeting people and want to make new friends?
* You want to enhance your CV?
If so we want to hear from you!
We are looking for local people to train as advisers – no specific qualifications or previous experience is necessary – our advisers come from all walks of life. You just need to be friendly, non-judgmental, willing to learn and be able to use a computer. You will receive full training and always have a supervisor available.
As an Adviser you could be: exploring and identifying clients’ problems, researching information using Citizens Advice resources and explaining options to clients or helping them make informed decisions about how to deal with their problems. You could also be acting on behalf of the client, negotiating, drafting or writing letters, making phone calls or appropriate referrals. For more information about the role of adviser, click here.
Your initial training will take around 9 -10 weeks to complete and will comprise a mixture of office based and online learning. There will be some homework (usually reading using e-learning modules) to do each week to begin with, but we will get you answering the phone and writing up clients’ issues as soon as you feel confident enough to do so.
If you have any IT requirements, please don’t worry as we have equipment available that we can lend to you to support your training and volunteering with us. However, you do need to be reasonably confident using computers and email in order to undertake this role.
Once trained, we would like you to volunteer for us 2 half days or one full day each week – this helps you keep up to date with changes in legislation or procedure. Although our service continues throughout the year, including school holidays, we can be flexible if you have school aged children or other caring responsibilites, so please do talk to us.
We welcome applications from all sections of the community, so what are you waiting for?
