Adviser training Autumn 2021

JOIN OUR GREAT TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS!

Last year our brilliant team of volunteer advisers helped 2,383 people with over 9,000 issues! If you believe in social justice, have some time to spare and want to make a real difference, why not join us?
You don’t need specific qualifications or experience; Advisers receive full training and always have a supervisor available. As an Adviser you could be: exploring and identifying clients’ problems, researching information using Citizens Advice resources and explaining options to clients or helping them make informed decisions about how to deal with their problems. You could also be acting on behalf of the client, negotiating, drafting or writing letters, making phone calls or appropriate referrals. For more information about the role of adviser, click here.

Our next training course starts at the end of November 2021. Initial training is expected to take around 9 -10 weeks to complete and will comprise a mixture of office based (subject to Government advice and risk assessments at the time) and online learning.  You will need to complete around 4 to 8 hours a week of reading (using e-learning modules) in preparation for your weekly session.

There will be office based training one day a week in Saffron Walden (day to be agreed). This will focus on group training tasks, for example how to approach advice problems and our procedures for writing up but will move relatively quickly to making client phone calls and doing advice work with full support as you progress through the course.  You will also be invited to attend 2 live webinars. If you have any IT requirements, you shouldn’t worry as we have equipment available that we can lend to you to support your training and volunteering with us.

Once trained, we ask our volunteers to commit to volunteering for us for at least 2 half days or one full day each week for around 2 years.  As volunteers, you can of course take holiday!  However, our service continues throughout the year, including school holidays, with the exception of a short break over Christmas.
Working with us you will meet new people, gain new skills and experiences that could enhance your CV, challenge yourself and achieve great satisfaction! We welcome applications from all sections of the community, so what are you waiting for?
